The reason I decided to choose the book Eleanor and
Park to read, was because my Freshman English teacher had been recommending
this book all year to kids. It had never grabbed my attention, until I started
scrolling through the lists of summer reading books to choose from and I
noticed that it was listed on there. I read the description about the book and became
very curious about the storyline. I decided to give it a go, because everyone else
was reading books that had a movie based off of it, and I didn’t want to read
something that could give you the information about the book without actually
reading it. I could tell by the cover that the book was going to be something
about a teenage romance, and I never really read genres like this, but I wanted
to see if I would like it or not. As I started beginning to read, I noticed a
few personal connections about Eleanor that I could relate with. Eleanor’s
parents are divorced and so are mine. Her dad has remarried, and so has my dad.
I have multiple siblings like Eleanor. The tension that was going on in her
house was similar to when my parents would fight. Eleanor has always felt out
of place, and not really made many friends. Same with me. I could go on and on
about things that me and Eleanor both relate with. I became really attached to
this book as I kept reading on, because of all the similar connections that I
could connect with. I would specifically recommend this book to 3 of my closest
friends. They would all have the same connections that I had with this book, and
I think that it would really make them feel closer with the storyline. All these
different connections really make you feel like you’re one of the characters. As
you read more into the book you start to build up all these emotions the more
that you keep on reading. Once you know you’re about to be done with the book,
you don’t want it to all end. This book is now one of my favorites, and I really
got a lot out of it. I’m so happy with the book choice I made because it really
made me a better reader as I noticed each word the author had put in the book
and why she used it. You should always feel connected with the book your
reading in some type of emotion. Whether its loneliness, anger, joy, sadness,
and so one. You should get a lot of important information that you can keep with
yourself forever.
