After Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles
left the house Montag went outside and hid the books in the bushes near the
alley fence. The next day as he was walking to work he met an older man and the
man told Montag, "No, you mustn't! If there were no war, if there was
peace in the world, I'd say fine, have fun! But, Montag, you mustn't go back to
being just a fireman. All isn't well with the world." (Page 106)
The old man is meaning that Montag knows more than everyone else and it’s not right for him to be a fireman with too much knowledge on what he thinks the government is doing. I think after Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles left they rethought what Montag had read to them and didn't think that the firemen were allowed to read from books that are supposed to be burnt. I think the women caught on and knew something was up and what they had just listened to was illegal. I think that maybe the women went to Beatty, (Montag's boss) and told him what Montag had read to them. I think the actions that the women might take next is telling Beatty to be arrested and to burn all of the rest of the books.
The reason I think this is because in the last reading on page 119 Beatty says, "When you're quite finished," said Beatty behind him, "You're under arrest." Also Beatty says to Montag, "But her friends turned in an alarm earlier that I let ride."
