The Starch Solution - Post 1

Nutrition and health is very important to me so when I heard a lot about this book I knew I had to read it. The starch solution is about only eating fruits, vegetables, and eating a lot of potato's, beans, rice, lentils, bread, and any thing else that is considered a starch. I really have been liking this book a lot because I've learned a much better inside on why eating a plant-based diet is so much healthier rather than eating the regular western American diet. On page 26 it explains the pros of eating this way when Dr. McDougal says, "a starch-based diet, on the other hand, brings radiant health along with the loss of excess body fat. Endurance athletes know the benefits of 'carbo loading'. In addition to enabling peak performance, a starch-based diet improves blood flow to all tissues in the body." (page 26) He goes in more on all of the benefits and treating your body this way is amazing because you get all of the nutrients that you are needing. I can't wait for the next upcoming blog and more about how healthy and amazing it feels eating this way.

I know that eating this way in my opinion actually works, and if you stick to more whole foods and less junk, then you won't have the desire to crave all of those unwanted needs. I never have the urge to eat chips, ice cream, and cake, because my body is getting filled up with all the nutrients that it needs. It makes me feel more happy that I eat this way, because I can eat as much as i want to and I don't have to worry about junk being put into my body. I wish more people knew about this lifestyle so that they didn't have to restrict the amount of calories that their eating. When you eat only fruits, vegetables, and starches you feel so much energy inside of you. The Dr. McDougal book has been amazing and such a great read to get a better understanding of the things that my body needs and the things I need to eliminate.

Voice Column

This column was about different writing techniques and tips on how to have style, flair, personality, and more. The writer uses a lot of figurative language in their column, like when he/she says, "A columnist has successfully created a voice when strangers in a supermarket say, 'I feel like I know you.'" Or when the writer says, "Occasionally, drops of wisdom spatter down like rain, and if you keep an ear cocked, you might catch some." I could pick out even more figurative language that the writer uses all throughout his/her column. Another thing that the writer does a lot, is when he/she lists off popular well known people. "For example, Thomas Friedman's foreign policy columns . . ." . "Mary McCarty pens a . . ." . "Shakespeare, Margaret Atwood, or Ton Morrison." There is so much things that the writer does a lot of but you can tell that he/she takes a lot of time and effort in his/her writing when they are using their own tips in the column as they explain what makes a good writer.

BEST VEGAN RECIPES magazine

On page 30 of the magazine it had a recipe for tofu, and I was very excited to see this recipe because I have never made any thing with tofu, or I haven't even tried it. I know right! Surprise, surprise a vegan hasn't even tried tofu! What! So when I was in desperate need for a tofu recipe I knew that this recipe would do the thing. It's a very yummy and delicious Asian kale salad with green bean, and tofu! Yum! Yum! Yum! I can't wait to try this recipe ASAP! I wish that more people knew about recipes like this because there not very difficult to make. This is a great way to get the family to make different recipes and share them with friends and family! I love how this magazine is like a rainbow and that there is so many things to make. I can't wait to be purchasing more magazines like this because it gets me excited when the next time I am making a dinner for my family.

Another recipe that I thought looked very desirable to eat was on page 72, a whipped coconut cream!!! This recipe is gluten free, raw, and VEGAN! I think that this would taste amazing on cookies, ice cream, cake, or even just by itself. This recipe is only three ingredients. 1 14-oz. can full-fat coconut milk, 1 tbs. of confectioners' sugar, and 1 tsp. of vanilla extract. I canst wait to try this luscious sweet recipe! I really loved reading through this magazine and seeing the different types of foods that I can make that are all vegan. This makes me very creative and able to look back through this magazine and find so many different recipes from breakfast to deserts. I love finding these types of magazines at book stores because there so colorful and the recipes get me inspired to create something that normally isn't on the safe side of cooking for me.
