English 1B: Arguement Writing An Introduction

Claim (Thesis/Topic sentence):

Is Romeo and Juliet a tragedy or comedy?

Evidence (introduce/quotes):

ROMEO

“Alive, in triumph!

And Mercutio slain!

Away to heaven, respective lenity,

And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!

RE-enter TYBALT

Now, Tybalt, take the villain back again,

That late thou gavest me: for Mercutio’s soul

Is but a little way above our heads,

Staying for thine to keep him company:

Either thou, or I, or both, must go with me.”
Romeo-and-Juliet.jpg (2948×2010)

Warrant (analysis):

This quote supports my topic sentence because it shows how much Romeo cares for Juliet and doesn’t want to fight with any of her family. It becomes so tragic when Tybalt kills Mercutio, he wouldn’t have been dead if Romeo would have just helped him out in the first place. Romeo became very upset with Tybalt and let out his anger by killing Tybalt.

Backing (analysis):

There’s no doubt in my mind that this terrible thing wasn’t a tragedy. What would you do if someone had just killed your best friend? It’s hard to hold back that much anger for so long. Romeo couldn’t stand what Tybalt had done. He needed to stand up for what his rights were, not Juliet’s.

Counterclaim (analysis):

Some people might look at this as a comedy because why would you respect someone who hates you and is about to try to kill you and your best friend.

Rebuttal (analysis):

When you overall look at everything you can see how this is such a tragedy to so many people. Romeo is heartbroken that he has lost his best friend, killed one of his wife’s family member’s, and has lost trust from the person who is most important to him out of everyone. Juliet.

Organization

3-organize.jpg (2640×1980)
Organization is an important thing to me because when I'm not organized I feel like my life is a mess and that I don't have anything in order. When I have a messy room or messy back pack my brain feels stuffed with too much things to do in so little time. When I procrastinate and don't manage my time usefully I just feel very stuck and out of place. I honestly don't know what my reaction should be when I end with a room filled with messes everywhere. Sometimes I feel like I need time to clean it up but other times I feel like I need to get the job done then and now. When I am organized my brain feels like I have more space to be thinking about other things that I can get done or I can just take that time to relax and be proud for cleaning up what I had to do that day. Organizing can be hard and can get better if you just pick up a few things here and there. I am very happy when I come home to a clean bedroom and I can spend more time studying for an upcoming test, or watching a little bit of T.V.

Psst. There's Some Gunk in Your Smile arguement

Should you tell someone that they have something in their teeth?
somethingInTeeth.jpg (600×339)
I think that you should tell someone that they have something in their teeth because I know that I would feel more embarrassed if I found out myself that I have something in my teeth instead of someone else just telling me. I think that if I had something in my teeth I would want to know so that I can get it out right then without 2 hours later looking into the mirror and finding leftover spinach in my teeth. I think that people should inform someone that they have something in their teeth so that the other person knows that they care for them and don't want them to feel embarrassed after looking into a mirror. To support my thesis statement on page 5 of the Upfront magazine it says, "I would suggest pointing out-as matter-of-factly as possible- the spinach (or arugula or any variety of kale) lodged between the teeth of even mere acquaintances. Wouldn't you want to know if the messes were reversed?" I think that it’s better to tell someone ahead of time so that its only one person knowing what you had for lunch instead of all of your friends and family.

Thinner Than Thou Kit Reed Post 1

A girl named Annie is struggling with her weight and wants to do something about it without her parents finding out. She sneaks out of her house in the middle of the night to go running, she'll wake up early in the morning and go running. At lunch she won't eat anything and just sit there till the bell rings. When its dinner time she tells her parents that she already ate and that she's not Hungry. She wears layers and layers of thick clothing so that she looks the same. One day her mother saw her hopping into the shower and realized that she didn't look the same. When her parents found out that she was extremely losing weight without telling anyone they knew that this had became an addiction and that she wouldn't be able to go back to school. Her parents knew that it would be best if they sent her to a sanctuary called The Dedicated Sisters. Its a place where teenage girls get help with their weight conditions and be able to get back on the right track. Her two younger twin siblings had woken up one morning and were confused why all of Annie's things were gone, they didn't know why. They had asked their parents where Annie was and they pretended like they didn't know what they were talking about. The twins knew that they would have to figure out where Annie went even if they were to get grounded and never be able to hang out with their friends again. Annie's parents were very serious about her getting help so they knew that they had to do something fast and unnoticeable. "Annie Got in Trouble and their folks shipped her off in the middle of the night. She didn't even get to say good-bye. It happened like that! One day the twins were sitting on the plaid sofa in family room watching TV with good old Annie in her big shaggy sweater: One Size Hides All, and the next morning she was gone." (Page 11) I think that this quote is very important because her parents didn't ever really think what Annie wants and how she feels leaving her house and not saying bye to anyone.
284295.jpg (314×475)
As I read on into the story I noticed that Annie's parents didn't really seem to care what happened to her as she was away. I was so surprised that someone so close to you would do anything to change you. I don't think that it's right to have someone make the final decisions for you. "If they think they see a pattern and start asking questions tell them somebody had a double chocolate birthday cake at lunch or tell them you had that Big Mac or one too many Frappuccino's on the way home from school and if they sit you back down and try to force you? Eat enough to satisfy them, gobble it down and wipe your mouth, yum, yum, and after that- you know what to do. What you do to your body is your secret. Then go out after dinner and wind yourself like an anaconda around this nice boyfriend of yours, Dave, and what you and he do together is secret too." (Page 23) I understand where Annie is coming from because she just wants to be satisfied with her body, but I also understand that her parents think that she's coming off as someone crazy. Lying to her family, sneaking out of the house, loosing as many calories as possible, wearing very thick clothing to make it look like she hasn't changed. I hope that Annie stops with this eating disorder and I also hope that her parents appreciate that Annie doesn't always need the right decisions made by her parents. I hope that Annie and her parents have a better relationship as she gets help at The Dedicated Sisters sanctuary.

I am Malala - Women's Rights

Difference between girls and boys rights

This quote from the book tells how boys are more celebrated than girls because the last name of the family goes on if that family has a boy, but if they have a girl then the last name doesn't stay on.  "I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain, their role in life simply to prepare food and give birth to children." (Page 13)

Supporting Detail:
2.This quote tells me that even though the women cook dinner the men still get the better part of the chicken. I think that this happens because men get to go work so the women should cook the dinner and offer the best part of the meal to the men for all that they have done. "When a chicken was slaughtered for dinner the girls would get the wings and the neck while the luscious breast meat was enjoyed by my father,  his brother and my grandfather." (Page 29)

Supporting Detail
3.This quote also tells me that even a grown women cant even have her own bank account because its more of a man's job to have a bank account because he's the one who happens to make all the money.  "A women couldn't even open a bank account without a man's permission." (Page 31)

All three of these quotes that I found from the book shows how women are treated differently than men, and how they aren't that much appreciated for all that they do. I think that this is horrible that women don't get to have the same equal rights as the opposite gender. This makes women feel powerless and that they shouldn't be here in this world for just watching kids and cooking dinner. All three of these quotes I found definitely show many differences between gender rights.

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 6

plliars.jpg (500×375)

I am now on page 244 (chapter 29) and many things have happened after Noel Kahn's party last night. I have been analyzing all of the girl’s personalities and how their all dealing with "A", and when they will tell each other that someone has been sending them texts about secrets that only Ali knew about. Aria ditched Noel and went over to Ezra's house to see how they could keep whatever their relationship was a secret. Aria and Ezra must have agreed about being a thing because she got a text from you know who that said, “Aria, That’s some kind of extra credit! Love ya, A    P.S. Wonder what your mom would think if she found out about your dad’s little, uh, study buddy . . . and that you knew!” (Page 206) From the beginning of the book I thought that Aria would be the one to tell someone anything and not keep this big of a secret from her parents, but I mean she’s been holding in her dad’s affair for a while now. As I’ve analyzed how Aria acts and what her personality is, I wonder if she is going to move forward with her AP English teacher and take the blame if they get caught being seen together other than school. I keep rereading and studying the message that Aria got from “A” and I’m wondering what “A” is planning to do with her dad’s little secret. I also have been analyzing a note that Emily found stuck on the back of her bike tire. “. . . I love staring at the back of your head in class, I love how you chew gum whenever we’re talking on the phone together, and I love that when you jiggle your Sketchers during class when Mrs. Hat starts talking about famous American court cases, I know you’re totally bored.   . . . and I’ve done a lot of thinking about why I kissed you the other day. I realized: It wasn’t a joke, Ali.  I think I love you. I can understand if you never want to speak to me again, but I just had to tell you. – Em” (Page 225-226)
"Thought you might want this back. Love, A"

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 5

I told you that I would come back with a new post, and here I am again with more to tell. I'm on page 192 (chapter 22) and everyone at Rosewood is talking about Noel Kahn's party that he is going to have this weekend. Aria doesn't know if she is going to go or not with Noel because she is still crushing on Ezra, Hanna is wanting Sean to go with her but they have been having some disagreements over how far they are allowed to go in their relationship, Spencer doesn't think that she is going to go because she would rather spend her time doing her calculus homework than be at a party filled with random people that probably don't even go to Rosewood, and Emily doesn't know if she is going to go or not with Ben because he's getting annoyed with her spending so much time with the new girl, Maya. "They pulled through the Kahns' open wrought-iron gates. The property was set back from the road, so the driveway was half a mile long and surrounded by tall, thick pines. Even the air smelled cleaner. The redbrick house sat behind massive Doric columns. It had portico with a little horse statue on top and a gorgeous all-grass sun room off to the side. Emily counted fourteen windows on the second floor, from one end to the other." (page 179) I pulled out this piece from the story because it vividly described the setting of the Kahn's house and where the party was at. This page had a lot of imagery going on and I could picture exactly what every thing looked liked from detail to detail. I could tell that it was right around when the sun went away and the moon came quietly out ,  the temperature dropping 10 degrees, the leaves laying on the ground crumbled and crushed without any care, and people with red plastic solo cups filled up with as much beer they could hold to the point where it was dripping all over their hands as they walked inside and out of the Kahn's house. I will come back with another post soon and talk more about what trouble happened for the girls at Kahn's party. Look out cause I'm always watching you. -A

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 4

Hi, I'm back with a new post so right now I am on page 147, chapter 15. I left of by telling you how Aria , Emily, and Hanna all got a message from "A". The reason I didn't say if Spencer had got a message from "A" or not was because she didn't take it too personal but I have so much more to tell about her "A" message so get ready for some juicy information. "Spencer, Covet is an easy one. When someone covets something, they desire and lust after it. Usually it's something they can't have. You've always had that problem, though, haven't you? -A" (page 83) When Spencer got this letter thinking they were her test results she didn't get too startled about until she saw that night someone in Allison's house who looked at the window across from her bedroom with blonde long hair. Could this have been Ali? Is Ali really alive and playing a game with the girls? I thought this until I came along reading, "She swallowed hard. Now that she thought about it, she might have seen his black Mini drive by the day she and Wren were in the hot tub together. He must've been driving it up and down her street a lot to notice Melissa was home. what if . . . what if Andrew was the one skulking around spying on her? What if Andrew wrote that creepy "covet" e-mail? Andrew was so competitive it seemed possible." (page 144) When I saw this I thought twice about what I had thought before. The paragraph goes on about how Andrew has long blonde hair and if he was in Ali's bedroom. Now that I have updated you on Spencer's "A" e-mail I am now going to update you a little more on Aria. The next day of Aria being back in school she had a speech presentation in her English class. Mr. Fitz was getting annoyed with her speech and told her that it was wrong and that she needed to stop. I don't think that's really why he was upset because before English class had started Aria asked Ezra if they could still work through things even though he is her teacher. He told her no and said that if he would have known her age then he wouldn't have in fronted her in such a disrespectful way. Aria disagreed with Ezra and exclaimed by saying that age doesn't matter and that her parents are more than a few years apart from each other. Ezra told her that this was different and that he could get into major trouble if someone found out that he was dating one of his students. During class when Aria sat back down she got a text message on her phone that said, "Aria, Maybe he fools around with students all the time. A lot of teachers do. . . . Just ask your dad! -A" I can't tell more but in my next post I will go into detail of what "A" is meaning by her dad. See you soon, -A

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 3

I'm back with another post about what has been happening since I left off. I am now on page 123 chapter 12 and I have been loving this book more and more. I am obsessed with the show and I really wanted to know what the author's perspective was based off of the books. I left off by saying how Aria and Emily both got a note from someone named "A". Since then Spencer got back from her field hockey practice and is really sore so she needed to relax in her hot tub that the Hastings have in their backyard. Remember Wren Melissa's boyfriend who I mentioned and how Melissa and him were going to be staying in the barn for a few months, well Spencer forgot that they were going to be moving in tonight so as she was sitting in the tub with her eyes shut trying to relax Wren came out from the barn and surprised her wondering why he was here. She had forgotten that she had been half naked so when she saw Wren start to dip his feet into the tub she was startled and didn't want Melissa to think something different. As I kept reading along to the next chapter I read about Hanna and her boyfriend Sean. Hanna had a very big crush on Sean ever since the 6th grade but knew she never had a chance with him because of her looks and how she acted. Later that evening Sean had gone home and Hanna's mother had came home from work. The door bell rang and appeared to be a Rosewood police officer who told Ms. Maron that Hanna needed to go down to the police station to answer a few questions of what was being shown on the rosewood security tapes. Hanna had been caught for stealing a Tiffany Co bracelet and while waiting in the police station, Hanna scrolled through her phone to see if she had any new text messages. One new text message had appeared onto her phone saying, "Hey Hanna, Since prison food makes you fat, you know what Sean's gonna say? Not it! -A" (P. 96) I have so much more to spill but I have to keep it a secret until the next time I post, till then. -A

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 2

plliars.jpg (500×375)
I am back writing about The Pretty Little Liars book and can't wait to give all of the juicy gossip about Aria, Emily, Hanna , and Spencer. All four girls started their first day of junior year at Rosewood High and Aria just walked into her first class AP English. She was on her phone while the new English teacher was writing his name on the board in white chalk and going over basic rules and do not's about not using your cell phones. Mr. Fitz new teacher at Rosewood was the guy at Snooker's bar who was making out with Aria in the girls bathroom. She looked up and her mouth went dry, looking back at her phone getting a message that approached her that said , "Aria: Surprise! I wonder what your pig puppet will have to say about this . . . -A" (P. 66) I went on reading about Emily going back to the school after walking Maya home to go to her swim practice. Emily opened up her locker reaching for her clothes when she came to see something fluttering out of her locker onto the wet floor. She picked up the note and read it in her head, "Hey Em, Sob! I've been replaced! You found another friend to kiss! -A" (P. 74) I'm on page 80 right now but I'll keep you updated soon but for now watch out because I'm always watching you. -A

Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard Post 1

Pretty+Little+Liars+Covers.jpg (484×648)
My silent reading book is called Pretty Little Liars and is about four other girls who used to hang out with each other and their friend Alison DiLaurentis who has been missing for over two years. These girls used to have so much in common by telling and keep each others secrets. Emily Fields, a nearly straight-A, four-time state champion butter flyer and hyper obedient. Aria Montgomery, an outsider who still is figuring out who she is and where she fits in place. Hanna Maron , best friends with, used to be geek, Mona Vanderwaal. Her stealing obsession to fit in and not be Hefty Hanna any more after Ali's disappearance. And Spencer Hastings, five APs, leadership training, charity drive organizing, yearbook editing, drama tryouts, hockey practice, and sending in summer program applications to prove her parents that she is capable to more things then her sister Melissa.  They all have one thing in common that could never be replaced is their missing friend Ali.  I am on page  57 right now and just read about Spencer meeting her sister Melissa's boyfriend Wren. She is very furious with her sister because she wanted to stay in the barn her family has in their backyard but perfect Melissa gets everything she wants so now Spencer is trying to hold herself and stay calm. I will keep you updated more on the four little liars and what trouble will come for them because of there very close friend Ali. -A

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

My summer reading book is called Where'd you go, Bernadette and the story is about a mother named Bernadette who has been emailing an online assistant named "Manjula". Her husband Elgie Branch had already told her to stop emailing people on this website but she ignored him and pretended like she hasn't been emailing Manjula anymore. There fifteen year old daughter Bee asked to go onto a family vacation trip to Antarctica during the holidays because of her excellent grades. Bernadette is worried about the trip and doesn't know how to get ready for the trip so everything that she needs to get ready for she has been requested Manjula to do for her so that she can stop thinking about the trip. Bernadette still is very worried about going onto the trip but she doesn't want to let her husband and daughter down so she has asked Manjula to make an appointment the day before the trip to get her four wisdom teeth took in out. Bernadette has gone over the edge to the point when Elgie gets a letter from the FBI association saying that "Manjula" is actually an alias for an identity-theft ring operating out of Russia. When Elgie found out about this he was furious. I can't say anymore about the book except for that something bad happens when Bernadette was supposed to be getting her wisdom teeth took in out without anyone knowing.
On page 169 is a letter sent to Elgie Branch from Marcus Strang of the FBI saying in the letter, "In  the course of this correspondence, your wife has turned over credit card information, bank wiring instructions, social security numbers, drivers license numbers, addresses, passport numbers, and photographs of you, herself, and your daughter. You are apparently unaware of this activity. Your wife suggests in one email to "Manjula" that you had forbidden her from using the services of Delhi Virtual Assistants International. This matter is delicate and urgent. Yesterday "Manjula" asked for power of attorney while your family is away in Antarctica. We were able to intercept this email before it was delivered to your wife. Judging from her past behavior, we had reason to believe she would sign it without hesitation." This text from the book supports a central idea and analyzes in detail what is happening in the book and gives examples on page 169 by saying how Bernadette has been emailing "Manjula" and giving out personal information that has been caught to the FBI's attention. The text tells what Bernadette has been giving out and informs Elgie that something needs to be took in place for Bernadette's actions.
